Presentation

In a broad sense, the concept of fetal medicine can be defined as the set of preventive and/or interventional actions performed on the fetus during gestation.

The fetal medicine specialist acts, in collaboration with other experts, with the aim of improving the health and well-being of the mother-fetus binomial both in pregnancy and childbirth. This is achieved through the use of early diagnosis, counseling and treatment of complications that directly affect the fetus, as well as in the collection of samples for medical tests (such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling) or in the practice of intrauterine procedures that seek to offer the fetus a better life expectancy.

The increase in the information available on fetal pathology, research and the growing technological development has increased the skill in the management of maternal-fetal complications and forces health professionals to have an increasingly specialized knowledge and mastery in the field.

Dirigido a

Medical professionals specialized in gynecology and obstetrics, with a minimum of experience in maternal-fetal medicine, who wish to update and deepen their knowledge at a high level to qualify them for their daily practice.

Overall objective

To train specialists in gynecology and obstetrics for the management of gestation and high risk, with emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of problems of fetal origin.

To ensure that our graduates effectively meet the professional demands specialized in fetal medicine in the health sector.

To link professional training with scientific research so that our graduates become agents of change in their environment.

Teaching Methodology

The Postgraduate Course in Fetal Medicine consists of a theoretical-practical part and a practical-presential part.

The first one is carried out through the Virtual Campus of Medicina Fetal Barcelona and combines online theory with the resolution of clinical cases and interaction with the faculty through the Masterclasses.

The on-site practice is performed in the facilities of Medicina Fetal Quito, equipped with the most modern technology for the diagnosis of fetal pathologies.

The course is conducted in small groups of a maximum of 25 students, allowing for greater student-teacher interaction.

There will be two different evaluations that must be passed in order to obtain the certificate.

The theoretical evaluation is carried out online, once the Masterclass session has been completed and any doubts that the students may have have have been resolved.

The evaluation of the classroom practice will be based on the knowledge acquired in each of the practical sessions.

In order to obtain the certificate it is essential to pass all the modules, as well as the Postgraduate Final Project.

Each module will be composed of the following blocks:

  •  Online Theory
  •  Online clinical case resolution
  •  Masterclass with Fetal Medicine Barcelona
  •  Theoretical evaluation
  •  On-site internships
  •  Practical evaluation

  •  Additional session

Any changes to the calendar will be notified at least 10 days in advance.

Summer School:

It is a program consisting of 5 days of face-to-face activities in Barcelona. Exclusive and free for students of Fetal Medicine postgraduate courses with on-site practices in our LATAM offices (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico) who have completed the course. This activity is complementary and optional.

The objective of the event is that students from Latin America have the opportunity to meet the teaching team (directors, coordinators and professors working in Barcelona) but with a novel proposal focused on reinforcing knowledge, through the visualization of demonstrations (an expert will perform a fetal exploration with the aim of resolving doubts and frequent errors) and live ultrasound scans of pathological fetal conditions that will be commented by experts, as well as masterclasses and classes based on clinical cases. The proposal includes a very new topic of great interest for professionals, such as medical management, with the aim of improving the efficiency and leadership capacity of professionals in clinical practice.

And in this environment, in addition to getting to know one of the most attractive cities in Europe, you will also be able to network with people from all the countries of Latin America.
