This 4-day course is aimed at specialists in gynecology and obstetrics and resident doctors in training who wish to train, update and improve their knowledge and skills in invasive procedures in fetal medicine. You will learn the most frequently used invasive techniques in prenatal diagnosis from the best world experts in maternal-fetal medicine, using mannequins specially designed to simulate a real experience.

The course is designed to practice in small groups with a maximum of 15 students. The sessions will be divided into 4 modules:

Module 1

  • Genetic indications for diagnostic invasive procedures
  • Non-genetic indications for diagnostic invasive procedures
  • Preparation of material and instruments for invasive procedures
  • Technique for performing Amniocentesis
  • Technique for performing chorionic villus sampling
Simulation: Amniocentesis, Amniocentesis in oligohydramnios, Transcervical chorionic villus sampling, Transabdominal chorion sampling

  • Informed consent
  • Invasive techniques in multiple pregnancy
  • Invasive procedures in situations of risk of vertical transmission
  • Amniodrainage: Indications and technical aspects. Risks and results. Informed consent
  • Ectopic pregnancy. Minimally invasive treatment
  • Management of complications of invasive procedures (Previable PROM)
Simulation: Amniocentesis in obese patient, Amniocentesis in twin pregnancy, Chorion biopsy in twin pregnancy, Amniodrainage

  • Fetal anesthesia: Indications and technical aspects
  • Cordocentesis/Intrauterine transfusion: Indications and technical aspects
  • Fetal puncture: Indications and general concepts
  • Vesicocentesis: Indications and technical aspects

  • Selective termination in dichorionic twin pregnancy

Eduard Gratacós – Direction

Director of BCNatal (Hospitals Clínic and Sant Joan de Déu) and professor at the University of Barcelona. An expert in fetal medicine and surgery, he has participated in the design of new techniques and has performed more than 1,800 interventions. Editor-in-Chief of Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy.

Mar Bennasar – Direction

Mar Bennasar is Consultant Physician-1 of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. She is a specialist in Fetal Echocardiography and Fetal Therapy. She has more than 15 years of experience in prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy. She is a Doctor of Medicine, she has published more than 4,530 scientific articles in international journals with an impact factor and regularly participates as a speaker in national courses and congresses.

Josep Maria Martinez – Direction

Head of the Fetal Medicine Section and Coordinator of Fetal Medicine and Therapy at BCNatal (Hospital Clínic and Sant Joan de Déu). He has more than 20 years of experience and more than 1,500 fetal surgeries. He has published more than 150 scientific articles in international journals with an impact factor and is a regular scientific reviewer for the main international and national journals in his specialty.

Francesc Figueras – Direction

Head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service of the Hospital Clínic and coordinator of Maternal and Obstetric Pathology of the BCNatal (which integrates the Maternal-Fetal Medicine services of the Hospital Clínic and Sant Joan de Déu). Head of the Fetal Growth and Preeclampsia Unit in both centers.
